1. Nespresso Ice Leggero

Best Iced Coffee

Intensity Level – Unknown

Ice Leggero is a coffee pod that’s made for cold coffee. Ice Leggero is not recommended for hot days. Plus, the ice melts and dilutes flavor so the coffee may end up bitter.

To preserve the freshness of an iced coffee, it is a good idea to use a coffee made specifically for this purpose.

There are many coffees that can be used to make iced coffee, but Ice Leggero is the most popular.

Its fruitiness, which is not too sweet nor too bitter, seems to be a pleasant balance.

Ice Leggero is made from a light-roasted mixture of Indonesian and Ethiopian Arabicas, which have been AAA certified.

Ethiopian Arabica Beans have an orange blossom scent with a sweet flavor. The beans are sun-dried for four weeks, with farmers turning it frequently to dry evenly.

Ice Leggero should be served with 180g of ice cubes. You can also add oatmilk to it.

This coffee isn’t always readily available. If you are lucky, make sure you buy it immediately!

The Nespresso Capsule makes 2.7oz (80ml), of espresso.

2. Nespresso Altissio

Best Full-bodied

Intensity Level: 9

Their espresso collection includes the Altissio. It’s rich and intense with a creamy texture. This espresso is made from Costa Rican coffee beans, which add a grainy note to the flavor.

It is short and intense, which gives it its full-bodied flavor. Because of its intensity, it’s best brewed as espresso.

Although it can taste a bit bitter, the balanced flavors help to lessen this. This will satisfy your coffee cravings if you are like me and enjoy a strong cup of coffee before bed.

This makes a fantastic shot of espresso. However, some may find it too strong. To make a cortado or a cappuccino or a lattes, you can add milk.

3. Nespresso Diavolitto

High Intensity Level

Intensity Level: 11

The Diavolitto, another great espresso pod is an intense one. This blends Brazilian Arabica beans and Robusta beans from Central and South America. This blend of coffee beans produces a rich, smooth coffee with some bitterness.

This coffee isn’t as intense as the OriginalLine Pods. OriginalLine Pods can reach 13 degrees of intensity.

Although the Robusta beans might have a slightly burnt taste, milk adds sweetness and creaminess to enhance the Nespresso pod’s intensity.

This coffee is intense and you should not drink it. Instead, make a cappuccino with the Diavolitto or a latte.

The VertuoLine machine can adjust its settings to allow for long prewetting in order to extract the Robusta’s intense flavor.

4. Nespresso Double Espresso Scuro

Best Double Espresso

Intensity Level: 11

Double Vertuo Espresso pods produce a rich, dark coffee. This makes it another excellent espresso pod. This blend is made from Robusta and Arabica beans that are sourced from Central America.

The Robusta beans come from Guatemala, while the Arabica comes from Costa Rica.

They can be roasted in two separate pieces, but they are both fully roasted.

Guatemalan coffee beans are grown high above sea level, which gives them their complex and spicy taste. The beans are impacted by the rich volcanic soil.

Guatemala is the 2nd largest coffee bean producer in Central America. Their coffee beans range from floral to chocolate notes depending on where they are grown.

This coffee has hints of vanilla, cocoa and smokiness. This brew is rich and complex because it combines sweet and savory flavors.

The Nespresso Vertuo pod is a double espresso. It makes 2.7oz (80ml).

7. Nespresso Stormio

Most Spicy

Intensity Level: 8

To make strong, rich coffee, this coffee is stronger than the Melozio.

To give it a woody, spicy taste, it is made with highly roasted Nicaraguan Arabica beans and Guatemalan Arabica Beans.

Nicaraguan coffee beans can be made by removing the fruit flesh from the coffee cherries and leaving the mucilage (flesh). The coffee beans are then dried in thin layers. To create a sweet and smooth flavor, the coffee beans are raked and rotated every day.

You can add milk to this coffee to reduce its intensity. It also tastes great!

It is made with Nicaraguan and Ethiopian Arabica coffee beans. This preserves its acidity, while giving it a light fruity taste.

To retain the acidity and develop full body, the beans are roasted long and lightly.

Although it can be bitter, the subtle fruitiness of the wine and its boldness balance it well.

It is made from both decaffeinated Arabica beans and caffeine-rich Arabica beans from Brazil, Ethiopia, and other countries.

For a sweet, light roast of Brazilian beans, the biscuit-like notes are created.

This medium roast Vertuo coffee pod is unflavored. It has a smooth, balanced mouthfeel.

This coffee is sweet and smooth with hints caramel, coconut, almond and biscuit.

For the soft and sweet taste, it’s made from Latin American and African Arabicas. Split roasted gives them that smoothness that balances the flavors.

11. Nespresso Carafe Pour-Over Style

The Best Craft Brew

Unknown Intensity Level

This coffee is not suitable for the Next machine, but it’s great for making a coffee carafe.

It’s intense and smoky with woody and earthy aromas.

It is made from a blend of coffee beans from Peru and Colombia.

To give Peruvian beans that intense flavor, they are dark roasted.

After the beans have been washed, they are sorted and then separated into the seed and flesh. The beans are fermented for at most 18 hours. After the fermentation, the coffee beans become softer.

Although it can be bitter, the crema and smokiness make up for this.

This Nespresso VertuoLine pod is designed for carafe brewing. It makes 18oz (535ml), of coffee.

What’s the difference between OriginalLine Pods vs VertuoLine Pods?

There are two types of Nespresso machines: the Nespresso OringalLine Machines or the Nespresso VertuoLine Machines.

OriginalLine Nespresso capsules look similar to long-lasting milk pods found in European hotels.

They are cylindrical and smaller than a pipe. The new VertuoLine pods, on the other hand, are round like cutting a tennisball in half.

source: nespresso

They aren’t as large as tennis balls, otherwise they would bounce off walls due to the caffeine.

Original capsules won’t work with VertuoLine machines, so you will have to spend more for Vertuo capsules than OriginalLine ones.

Originals are great for espresso drinks and other espresso-based drinks, while Vertuo ones work well for larger coffee drinks and espresso.

Original capsules were made by pump pressure up to 19 bars. Vertuo coffee machines employ centrifusion. This is when ground coffee is infused with water, and then spun quickly. This method produces a lighter crema, is more quiet, and is generally faster.

VertuoLine pods feature a barcode scanning technology. The pod’s rim has a barcode that is repeated around the perimeter. This allows the system recognize each capsule and adjust the brewing parameters to produce a unique cup.

The machine can read the barcode to know the temperature, cup size, flow rate and time that the coffee was in contact with water.

This is because the coffee machine can adjust its settings to each cup of coffee.

How can you store the best Nespresso VertuoLine capsules?

Your coffee should be sealed, just like any other coffee.

Vertuo organizers and pod holders come in a variety of designs.

A drawer can be made that the machine is on, and it will have rows of Nespresso pods when pulled.

What is the caffeine content of Vertuo pods

Nespresso claims that their VertuoLine Capsules contain 60mg to 200mg caffeine per cup.

How do you choose the best Vertuo pod?

These are the factors to consider when choosing the right Vertuo pod.

Type of coffee beans

Arabica coffee beans are preferred by some people because they are more bitter than Robusta coffee beans, and also have a higher quality.

FUN FACT: It was illegal in Costa Rica to grow Robusta beans over a period of time.

Robusta beans can make a great cup of coffee, and offer more caffeine.

Coffee drinkers generally have a preference. Some Nespresso pods use only Arabica, while others contain a combination of Arabica or Robusta.

The intensity

Nespresso provides a scale that shows how intense each Vertuo pod tastes. The VertuoLine capsules generally have a range of five to eleven. The OriginalLine capsules range from four to thirteen.

A Vertuo pod with a lower intensity would suit you if you don’t like stronger coffee.

Caffeine

There are different levels of caffeine depending on the coffee beans used.

Nespresso also makes decaffeinated and half-caffeinated pods. However, there aren’t many options.

Roast

Nespresso Vertuo line capsules can be used with light, medium and dark roasted coffee.

Because dark roast coffees are generally considered bitter, they tend to be more bitter as the longer they roast. However, this is not always true for dark roasts.

Because the roasting process masks the flavor, dark roasts are often used to make lower-quality coffee beans. However, this is not the case right now.

Mild roast coffee is more pleasant than dark roast and has a milder taste.

VertuoLine Tips

You can do so much more than just place the pods in your Nespresso Vertuo machine to get the best out of your Nespresso Vertuo capsules.

  • Keep your coffee machine clean: Regularly decaling and cleaning your machine are essential to maintain a good cup of coffee. This will also help to prolong the life of your coffee machine.
  • Do not leave water in your machine Water can cause your coffee to go stale and affect the flavor. It’s also not good for your machine.
  • Heat up the machine before you use it: Heating up the machine prior to brewing coffee can help to pierce your pods and ensure the right temperature for brewing.
  • Heat your coffee: Add a little hot water to your cup before you brew it. It can affect the taste and temperature of your coffee if it reaches cold temperatures. This can be done on your machine by boiling water and not putting a capsule.
  • Use filtered coffee: Filtered water is better than bottled water, as there are no impurities which can alter the taste of your coffee.

Can you recycle Nespresso Vertuo pods?

Yes, you can! Only a tiny percentage of these items can be recycled.

You can recycle the pods by getting a Nespresso recycling bag for free. Then fill the bag with used Vertuo capsules. You can either drop them off at designated locations or mail them to Nespresso. Or you can have them picked up from your house.

Each bag can hold up to 65 Vertuo capsules. They should last a long time before they need to be recycled.

You can reduce your carbon footprint by purchasing reusable Nespresso Pods. Our article on The Best Reusable Espresso Pods!
