Nespresso Vertuo and VertuoPlus Coffee Machine Review
Nespresso started experimenting with new capsule designs for their coffee machines a few years back. They came up with the Nespresso Vertuo range. These new capsules were simply named ‘VertuoLine‘ after the names of the new machines. The older Nespresso capsule, referred to as’originalLine‘, is still being manufactured by Nespresso. The OriginalLine Nespresso coffee caps are still very popular.

Nespresso Vertuo Coffee Machines and Coffee Capsules
The background reading explains that VertuoLine machines spin Nespresso coffee pods at speeds up to 7,000rpm. This results in a unique flavour profile when the coffee is extracted. This creates a variety of flavours and led to the creation of the Nespresso VertuoLine machine range. If you enjoy smaller coffees (espresso, lungo etc.) The OriginalLine machines might be better suited for you if you prefer smaller coffees (espresso, lungo etc.). VertuoLine machines are designed to fit larger mugs. We recommend that you check out this site if that’s your preference. However, flavour-wise, one might be better than the other so make sure to try both!

Nespresso Vertuo Coffee Machine Review
The Nespresso Vertuo coffee maker has a huge advantage: you can get a richer crema even though you use a larger amount of coffee. This is the major difference between the Nespresso OriginalLine or Nespresso VertuoLine lines, and the Vertuo takes full advantage of it!
You can choose from five cup sizes to use Nespresso VertuoLine pods: Alto (414ml), Mug (220ml), Gran Lungo (1150ml), Double Espresso (82.5ml), Gran Lungo (1150ml), Double Espresso (80ml), Espresso (40ml), and Espresso (31.5ml). This is in addition to the 3 sizes of Espresso Ristretto, Lungo and Ristretto. The default Nespresso Vertuo machine supports four of these sizes. If you want one of these, you can use two Single Espresso sizes.
Vertuo capsules come in many sizes. However, the unique bar codes around each capsule’s rim tell the Nespresso Vertuo machine which coffee pod you have placed inside. Automatic blend recognition takes care of the rest and determines what you need to make the best cup of coffee.
Nespresso Vertuo Coffee Machine Stats & Looks
The Nespresso Vertuo machine has a slim profile and is very sleek in black. It is just under 12 lbs in weight and measures 37.1cm deep, 35.8cm lengthwise, and 27.4cm wide at the front.
You can choose from four sizes: Alto, Mug Gran Lungo, Espresso, and Mug. Double Espresso pods may be available, but they are not one of the one touch options on the NespressoVertuo machine. To ensure the highest quality coffee, all Nespresso VertuoLine capsules have been hermetically sealed.
It takes approximately 25 seconds for the machine to heat up. This is quite normal for a Nespresso machine, so there are no complaints. The water tank is a respectable 1.2L. It’s not large, but it’s enough to get by. You can store as many as 13 large capsules in the capsule container. This will allow you to not have to empty it every day. You can even recycle used capsules!
Based on our expectations, the first cup of Nespresso Vertuo coffee was delicious. To test it out, we tried an Alto-sized cup. It is much larger than what we would expect from OriginalLine machines. We were surprised to find that there was a lot of crema on top, which is far more than what we would expect from an OriginalLine machine.
Nespresso OriginalLine vs VertuoLine – What’s the Difference in Taste you should know?
Although the taste is similar, it’s also slightly different. I think it’s impossible to use an OriginalLine espresso capsule in a larger cup. We think the coffee tastes exactly like Nespresso, but that’s just personal preference.
We think the VertuoLine range will be more appealing to those who prefer a bigger mug of coffee. The Nespresso Vertuo simply cannot achieve the same level of crema volume as the other machines.
If you prefer shorter drinks (espresso, etc.) The VertuoLine is also fine. Smaller pods for espresso work well. The OriginalLine has a wider range of flavours than VertuoLine, so if you want variety, we recommend OriginalLine ( see our guide on OriginalLine capsules and their flavour profiles). Otherwise, we love the VertuoLine’s quality crema, even in larger cups.

Nespresso Vertuo Plus Coffee Machine
Nespresso also launched the Vertuo Plus coffee maker, but most marketing materials just say that they have released the Vertuo. It doesn’t seem like they make much of two models.
The Vertuo plus is different from the Vertuo because the coffee machine’s head has an automatic opening/closing mechanism. You can also adjust the water tank to fit your space at home or work.

The automatic machine head opening and closing is something we consider a nice feature, but it can be a bit silly. We don’t mind it being opened and closed by ourselves. We do enjoy being able decide where the water goes for the coffee machine. Overall, we would happily recommend the VertuoPlus if it helps to place it where you want it. The Nespresso Vertuo can be purchased if you have large open spaces and are happy with the machine sitting on top of your counter.
Nespresso Vertuo & VertuoPlus: Milk Based Coffee
The VertuoPlus and the Nespresso Vertuo are not designed to make milk-based coffees such as cappuccinos or lattes. If you like the crema of the coffee and want it to be combined with your favorite milk-based beverage, an Aeroccino Milk Frother is available. You can either buy an Aeroccino individually or as part of a bundle that you receive with your machine.
The Aeroccino works with all Nespresso OriginalLine machines. You can move your Aeroccino from any machine!

Nespresso Vertuo & VertuoPlus Review Summary
We enjoyed the Nespresso Vertuo Vertuo and VertuoPlus coffees, and we especially liked the fact that Nespresso is still pushing the limits of what we can expect in an ‘instant’ coffee (or close enough!). You can make your own coffee at home. New centrifugal technology in VertuoLine pods has opened up new possibilities for larger coffee cups. We are certain that everyone who loves a large mug of coffee (or more!) will enjoy it. Because you get more coffee, the VertuoLine style is better than the OriginalLine. The Nespresso Vertuo or VertuoPlus are the best choice for large-sized coffee drinkers.
It’s nice to have the Nespresso VertuoPlus equipped with a way of moving the water tank. This is important for small kitchens, so you can choose where to put the water. This optional feature is available on an additional model. Those who do not need it don’t have to pay a higher price. We appreciate that!
VertuoPlus and VertuoPlus have a major drawback. This is because many of us enjoy a wider range of coffee. The VertuoLine makes espresso with an excellent crema, but there are fewer capsules available than OriginalLine machines. If you like to have many different coffee types throughout the year, an OriginalLine machine, such as the Nespresso Prodigio and Nespresso Creatista may be more suitable.
